Delphinium – Black Eyed Angels
Delphinium ‘Black Eyed Angels’ has large spires of frilly white blooms with black centers. Mature Height is 3 to 5 feet. Mature Spread is 18 to 24 inches. Plant in Full Sun to Partial Sun. For Zones 3-7.
Delphinium ‘Double Innocence’ has large coarsely textured leaves that make it attractive even when it’s not in bloom. Mature Height is 3 to 4 feet. Mature Spread is 1 to 2 feet. Plant in Full Sun to Partial Sun. For Zones 3-7.
The uniquely beautiful Egret Flower has blooms that look like birds in flight. The exotic white flowers bloom in May-June. Deer resistant. In the colder Northern Zones, protect with mulch. Mature Height is 12 to 14 inches. Plant at a depth of 1 inch, and space them 6 inches apart in the Full Sun to Partial Sun. For Zones 5-10.
The Geranium ‘Double Jewel’ has double white blooms with a pink/purple center. It is a much shorter variety than most geraniums with a Mature Height of 10 inches. Plant in Full Shade to Partial Shade areas at a depth of 1 inch. Space plants 18-24 inches apart. For Zones 4-8.
White Gladiolus Flowers
To extend the time of flower availability of your Gladiolus, plant them in two week intervals from early Spring through June. Increase water and fertilizer when the blooms begin to develop. Gladiolus symbolizes “Strength of character, Give me a break, Really sincere, the Roman Gladiators, Love at first sight, Preparedness, Strenght, and Splendid beauty “.
Gladiolus ‘Peacock’ produces flowers that appear to be white stars with mahogany eyes. Blooms from July-August. Mature Height is 36 inches. Plant 5 inches deep, and space them 8 inches apart in the Full Sun. For Zones 7-11. Other zones are possible by digging them out when their leaves turn yellow, dipping in a fungicide, and storing in a cool, dry frost-free place.
The Gladiolus ‘White Prosperity’ has magnificent pure white blooms that Mature at a Height of 36 to 60 inches. Blooms from July-August. Plant them 5 inches deep, and space them 5 inches apart in the Full Sun. For Zones 8-11. Other zones are possible by digging them out when their leaves turn yellow, dipping in a fungicide, and storing in a cool, dry frost-free place.
A white Globeflower! The ‘Artic Glow’ is brand new this year with tight 2 inch white/silver ‘globes’ on red stems. Deer Resistant, Drought Tolerant, and Heat Tolerant. Attracts butterflies. Plant in the Full Sun, spacing them 24 inches apart. Mature Height is 28 to 32 inches. Reblooming is possible by cutting them back (deadheading) after their first bloom cycle. For Zones 3-9.
I’ve grown the Hibiscus ‘Luna White’ for many years. The white blooms are very large (up to 8 inches!) with a burgundy/red center. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Mature Height is 2 to 3 feet. Mature Spread is 2 to 3 feet. Plant in Full Sun. For Zones 4-9.
Hydrangea ‘Incrediball’ is a new and improved ‘Annabelle’ Hydrangea with strong, hefty stems, that won’t droop, and large dark green leaves. The massive 12 inch blooms emerge a lime green, changing to white, then turn green again as they age. During hot, dry summers additional watering is required to keep them flowering. In the Southern areas it should be planted in Partial Shade and moist well-drained soil for best results. Mature Height is 4 to 5 feet. Mature Spread is 4 to 5 feet. Plant in Full Sun to Partial Shade. For Zones 4-9. Hydrangea’s symbolism is “Thank-you for understanding, Frigidity, and Heartlessness”.
Impatiens ‘Rockapulco White’ has the ability to light up any shady area with masses of blooms that resemble miniature white rosebuds. Requires no cutting back (deadheading) to produce blooms all summer long. Mature Height is 10 to 20 inches. Mature Spread is 10 to 12 inches. Plant in Full Shade to Partial Shade. For Zones 3-11. Can become a perennial in Zones 9-11. Impatiens are symbolic of “Motherly Love”. In the medieval Mary gardens devoted to the Virgin Mary, Impatiens plants were called “Our Lady’s Earrings.” The individual colors have not been given separate meanings.
